Misfit Magazine’s New Review of SURVIVING IMMORTALITY AGAIN

This is an amazing review of my book that was published last October (SURVIVING IMMORTALITY AGAIN, Alien Buddha Press, 2025) written by the great Alan Catlin in the new Summer 2026 issue of Misfit Magazine that was just published a couple of weeks ago! It is amazing for many reasons, the most obvious perhaps being that there are not many people out there who have been around long enough to know of me, to know me, to get published with me, let alone relentlessly like Alan. I literally ran across some magazines from 1990 last week in which he & I are both contributors & I have dozens & dozens of magazines from those years & decades in which he & I shared pages & I feel damn glad & lucky to have gotten to eventually know him over time, as opposed to “feeling” like you know someone you get published extensively with, which some people may understand. But not that many people could have written this piece from a personal, historical perspective like Alan did & most who could have like Gerry Locklin or Lyn Lifshin are now dead — something he & I sometimes have talked about in recent years.

Alan owes me nothing, didn’t have to write crap about this book, stays busy with his own writing & gets inundated with books & publications from all over for review in Misfit & yet he knows enough about me from what he’s heard & read as well as from what we’ve discussed & I’ve shared to KNOW what he’s talking about & he took the time to write this review. I’m grateful for his friendship, respect & support, especially because now in my present incarnation, I apparently look like an easy mark, or perhaps even prey, to some fools too stupid to know better but too arrogant to stop. I’ve had a life of both big ups & downs, have been bitch slapped by the universe a few times when it was probably needed, but the karma I’ve been paying the past 5-12 years is utter bullshit. Alan is generous with his words on this book (although reviews have been pretty favorable), but I appreciate his words perhaps a bit more than the “professionals” because of his perspective & the context provided.

Incidentally, I have a new book of poems scheduled for release soon, on July 1. It’ll be very different, not so “bleak,” & is meant to be more of an overview because not too many contemporary readers know what my earlier stuff was like, let alone my stuff from two decades ago, etc. But it’s unlikely Alan will review Where Do We Go from Here? Assorted Trip-Poems for Future Past Generations [Alien Buddha Press, July 1, 2026] because he’s finally retiring now & it’s well damn earned. Still, a pity for his fans as a writer & editor.

Thanks Alan!
