Many thanks to Libre for nominating me for 2026 Best of the Net in Nonfiction with my piece “Madnesses Again.” Special thanks to EIC Mary Sellers for working hard with me to make the piece as strong as possible. She’s a serious credit to her profession and put in some real time and effort, which is sort of old school — something I can respect.
One small irony. My Wikidata profile lists 10 genres I guess I’d be known for as a professional writer, and nonfiction is one of them. That said, I think it’s safe to say I’m much more well known for poetry, even fiction, and in some circles, more scientific or technology writing, among others. But when I do write some nonfiction pieces that get published — maybe 1-2 times per year — they don’t necessarily all get nominated for big awards, but often will find themselves as perhaps featured for a month or whatnot. Maybe I should take a hint in my old age, eh? Heh!
