My 2024 [Belated] Goodreads Reading Challenge

Every year I write an end-of-year post about my annual Goodreads Reading Challenge and the report titled My Year in Books. I think I’ve been doing this since about 2012 or 2013. This year was the first time I didn’t, even though I had participated as I have every year. And frankly it’s been bugging the hell out of me ever since we broke into 2025. How could I not post it??? Well, things have been continuously and disastrously chaotic since early 2024 through the present, which I’d like to briefly write about sometime, but time and health have been my enemies so I have to pick what and when I do things carefully.

With that said, “naturally” I don’t have the time to do my usual commentary and analysis but I’m fucking determined not to let this drop so I’m linking to last year’s post for comparison purposes and then just posting a couple of screenshots of my 2024 results as well as the annual results from 2018 through the present. Goodreads seems to have made some radical changes to the interface and seems to have ripped 75% of the info available away but I guess I can’t do anything about it. I’m sorry this is so late and I doubt many may care at this point, but I had to do this for me at least. I can’t just break such a longstanding tradition so casually, you know?

I finished my 2023 Reading Challenge surpassing my goal of 200 books by reading 452 books. For 2024, I set my goal at 200 books and read 418 (another location says 408, so I’m not sure which is correct), not quite as good as 2023, but considering the lack of time, poor health, insane year, etc., I think I did pretty well.

Since these screenshots don’t show or list all of the 2024 books but just a few samples, those interested can find the entire list on my 2024 Reading Challenge webpage. Feel free to glance at it and tell me how many of these you may have read, or anything else you’d care to. Comments are encouraged.

By the way, I usually post basic stats ranging from listing the shortest and longest books I read each year to my first and last book reviews, etc. I’m planning on doing that but on a follow-up post focusing on the annual My Year in Books report as that’s really what that’s all about. I hope to follow up with it pretty soon.

Last, I’m also posting a screenshot of my Goodreads bookshelves, about 50 different topics, with I think close to 7,000 books. Feel free to go over and peruse any of them if interested. When I have some time I like to see what others are reading or perhaps what resources may exist on certain topics that I’ve not yet found or read.

Additionally, if you’ve not visited my Goodreads Author’s Site in awhile, or ever, there’s info on a couple dozen of my books, a bio, almost 100 quotes from various of my books, favorite quotes of other authors, a few Q&A ditties and whatnot. I’m open for suggestions to grow, modify or otherwise do things with it as well.

Thanks so much and have a good one.
