Every year I write an end-of-year post about my annual Goodreads Reading Challenge and the report titled My Year in Books. It’s been an annual tradition for nearly a decade and it’s that time of year! Fortunately for readers of this post, I don’t have the time to write a longish analysis as I typically do, so I’m basically going to post a screenshot of each with a link to a PDF document for each where you can see icons of all of the books I read in 2023. My results were a little better than 2022 and I’m linking to last year’s post in case anyone wants to compare these two years.
Here is a screenshot of my 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge results and it shows my results in year dating back to 2013. I’ll also post a link to the PDF showing all of the book covers.
Last year I finished my 2022 Reading Challenge surpassing my goal of 210 books by reading 404 books. This year, I set my 2023 goal at 200 books and read 452, not the most ever but I think in my top 3-4 all-time in one year.
Here are the basics:
Scott’s 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge Basics
- Books Read: 452
- Pages Read: 194,948
- Shortest Book: 10 Pages [infamous speech by the late British MP James Burnham]
- Longest Book: 14,584 Pages [Delphi Complete Works of Emile Zola]
- Average Length per Book in 2022: 431 Pages
- Average Rating: 3.7/5
- First Review of the Year Written: Adam Lowther, Challenging Nuclear Abolition (a friend)
- Last Review of the Year Written: A.D. Winans, Dead Lions (a friend)
You can find my 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge results on Goodreads OR via a PDF on this website. It shows covers of all 452 books I read in 2023.
To continue, Goodreads also releases an end-of-year report fairly similar to the Reading Challenge titled My Year in Books (obviously for 2023 in this case), but with some of the stats I posted above, etc. Here is a screenshot of the top of the webpage.
Here are links to this Goodreads webpage AND to a PDF I made (which is large so hopefully it will work for everyone).
I need to wrap this up and those who have been with me a long time and who have seen this before may appreciate it, though others may too and I certainly hope so. I haven’t thought of my 2024 goal yet, but it might be around the same. Can’t say I can predict any success though. (And if you want to look at my Goodreads Author Page, you can find it here.)
Have a great New Years and here’s to a decent 2024. Cheers!
Scott
