Select Defunct Publications (with an RIP for each…)

Any mistakes in status are unintended and unintentional. I welcome confirmable updates.

I just happened upon a large list of old magazine links that was posted at Unlikely Stories which listed perhaps 100-150 magazines in which its contributors also were published at the time. I vaguely remember it because it contained a number that listed me as a contributor and probably far more that did not — only because they had not yet published me. Many of these would do so over the coming decade.

I don’t know the exact date of this Unlikely Stories Contributor Links page’s birth or abandonment, but it’d almost certainly be over 20 years old with some of these dating back over 30 years. I have slightly ambivalent feelings about this because the majority of these were short-lived online magazines, though not all, and frankly while I haven’t tested all of the links, or even half, I’ve only found a couple of working ones — all others are dead links. So one can’t easily get to most of these publications via this webpage. That said, I WAS published in a hell of a lot of them and some are listed on my Select Publications page here on the site with working URLs, so I do actually find value in listing some despite non-working URLs for some because that doesn’t automatically mean many can’t still be found with another effort. And since so many of these did publish me — in some cases for years — I have fond or nostalgic or good feelings and memories about many and am going to list those specific ones here as above while giving credit for the source and not bothering to try to find graphics for them — just the name and a link back to this listing where anyone can then peruse at their leisure. There are a ton of great mags, big and small, that are missed and I think it’s a good thing for me, and others, to remember them for everyone. Cheers!
